This route veers west from Namche Bazaar off the normal trek to Everest Base Camp towards the village of Thame situated above the Bhote Koshi River. Thame offers untouched Sherpa culture where the local people have maintained their traditional way of life. The forest near the settlement harbors endangered wildlife species like the musk deer and pheasants. Though no prior climbing experience is necessary on this trek one needs to be physically fit as the trail crosses over high passes. The trek though is well worth the effort as you not only get to take in awe inspiring mountain vistas, especially from Gokyo Ri (5,483 m), but also have the opportunity to enjoy the serenity of Renjo Lake as well as the ones in Gokyo, including Dudh Pokhari (Milk Lake). While returning, we retrace our steps back on the route that goes up to Everest Base Camp from Lobuche to Lukla visiting Kala Pattar (5,545 m) en route for more mountain views. The trek is not advisable during winter (January and February) and the rainy season (mid-June through August).
Trip duration: 20 days Trek grade: Fairly challenging Trek type: Lodge/Camping Maximum elevation: 5,545 m
